• The Str8nime Culture

A few years ago I stumbled across the home made 405: The Movie. I thought it was pure genius, a couple of guys using their home computers to create a mini-movie with awesome special effects. It was pretty obvious back then, in 2000, that people would be creating some amazing movies out of their home. The dawn of high quality, low budget movies.

I was reminded of this today when I read about We_Are_The_Strange, a movie by M Dot Strange.

What does this really mean to movie fans? More choice. We don’t have to rely on major studios producing the same type of movies we’re used to. Not that I’m complaining, because I love blockbusters. It’s going to be interesting to see what sub-cultures emerge around video, because one thing for sure: video is going to integrate into our lives like it’s never been integrated before. Like emo music fans, will we see a rising of str8nime fans, and what will they dress like?

  • Veoh’s Celebrity Video Partnership

Veoh Video Network, one of our favorite video sites, announced today that they are partnering with Wenner Media.

The partnership will enable Veoh and Usmagazine.com members to watch and upload videos of celebrities. This, of course, is our good friend citizen journalism–which will make Scouta friend Bronwen happy, and people like James Farmer fume–providing a way for everybody to share their encounters with celebrities. Whip out the trusty camera phone, capture a one minutes video of Tom Cruise jumping on a couch, and upload to either site. It’s going to be very interesting to see what pops up.

    Congratulations to the Veoh team.

  • Blogging Online Audio and Video

Now that we’ve announced we’re in the online audio and video “niche” (niche is probably the wrong word, given it’s not a small market), we plan to post a lot more to the Scouta blog.

For the last year we’ve had to keep mum, with stories and events happening in the space at an amazing rate, that’s not been trivial. Now we get to chat about our thoughts and opinions.
